Summary of Function:
Assists in the design, programming and implementation of small computer systems.
Duties and Responsibilities:
·Performs an analysis of user requirements for new small computer systems and service requests for enhancements to existing small systems. Makes a recommendation based on long and short-term benefits and cost. Develops system and program specifications. Develops and codes modules for an integrated application to support the design specifications.
·Prepares and assists in the preparation of system test plans. Defines tests and expected results. Performs tests.
·Sets up test environment.
·Provides user training and documentation and database documentation.
·Ensures efficiency of individual programs by designing adequate test data and monitoring input and output.
·Analyzes user requests and system problems.
·Implements up-grades to existing software as required.
·Performs “Oracle” and DB2 Database administration functions for small systems.
·Prepares test cases from user requirements; writes scripts for testing tools.
·Prepares or assists in the preparation of project schedules.
·Assists in training users how to utilize systems.
·Participates in team meetings and other projects as required.
·Performs typical duties inherent to the position.
Requirements:
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
·Must not have been convicted of a criminal offence for which a pardon has not been obtained. If a pardon was obtained, proof of pardon must be provided. If a conditional or absolute discharge has been received, proof that the RCMP has sealed the records must be provided.
·Must have conformed, presently conform and continue to conform to the Services Core Values.
·A three-year College Diploma or University Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
·A minimum of two years of related experience in Computer Operations, Data Analysis or Modelling is required.
·A technical knowledge test may be administered. Only those candidates achieving a minimum score of 65% will move forward to the next phase.
Preferred requirements:
Members who meet the preferred requirements will receive priority in this process:
·Proven working experience with at least one of the following: systems analysis, programming, Oracle/DB2 Databases, as well as testing with automated tools.

·Excellent interpersonal skills combined with the ability to communicate (both verbal and written) and deal effectively with systems development and technical support personnel.
·Ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
·Good problem-solving and analytical skills in order to troubleshoot system problems.
·Research skills to effectively use the Internet as a resource to gather information on IT tools, techniques, standards, etc., applicable to a project and/or to Quality Assurance and testing business.
·Technical aptitude and enthusiasm for learning new technologies and tools.
·Willing to engage in self-study to keep up-to-date with changing technology.
Probationary period is six months.
