Are you looking to use your skills with food preparation to ensure the health and safety of our residents? This on-call position will offer you just that.
What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:
• assist in the production of in-house cold regular/diet trays
• ensure food services equipment and supplies are used and stored in a safe and efficient manner
• ensure cleanliness, safety and security are maintained at all times
• assist in training staff and supervising inmate helpers
Please note: This position supervises inmate helpers for majority of working time. Salary note for Custodial Responsibility Allowance (K-1) applies.
How do I qualify?
Mandatory Requirements:
• you must possess a current First Aid and Heartsaver Certificates
• you have Servsafe and National Sanitation Training Program Certificates or are presently enrolled in courses for same
Technical Knowledge:
• you have knowledge of large volume cooking/baking principles
• you have knowledge of standard cooking, food preparation and storage procedures and methods
• you have knowledge of proper use of kitchen equipment and tools and food safety practices
Other Essential Skills:
• you have team leadership skills to provide instruction and direction to helpers
• you have communication skills, tact and diplomacy to work with ministry staff, inmate helpers and service providers
• you can prepare various reports
• you have analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and assess workplace hazards, equipment malfunctions and food service issues
• you have the ability to acquire knowledge of relevant legislation (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System)
